La última perla - y es que la diferencia de perspectivas es tan abismal - está en la reciente proclama sobre los procesos de tortura estadounidenses. Sobre todo por la desfachatez gallarda que muestran la administración Bush. Dicen que los detenidos sujetos a "técnicas de interrogación alternativas" por el hecho se serlo reciben información "top secret" y que por lo tanto el gobierno puede tomar medidas extremas para evitar que comuniquen de cualquier modo lo que pasa en las celdas. Virtuosismo y desvergüenza orwelliana sin limites.

Como bien dices lo que ocurre es que combatir el mal hace que, en ocasiones, te parezcas al mal. Pero si adquieres perspectiva, y te elevas sobre el día a día, verás que hay notables diferencias entre la administración americana y la baazista.

Vamos, y por supuesto, es mucho más virtuoso enterrar a pueblos enteros para que no cuenten que se les ha matado. Eso no es orwelliano porque se hace en nombre del islám y del socialismo. En fin, hipocresía y defensa del genocidio.

Nadie aquí apoya a Sadam. Habrá quien haga lo que haga EEUU les pegará palos, pero si normalmente se le pega a Bush Jr no es por que desde la Izquierda se admire a Sadam, sino porque los métodos de EEUU son inaceptables desde el respeto a la Libertad o la Dignidad o a la Justicia.

Y sí, sus métodos son orwellianos, como bien dice Daniel. Que la administración americana y la baazista tienen muchas diferencias es evidente...al igual que el preocupante retroceso de las libertades y de los derechos humanos en los EEUU.

Preocupante porque aunque sean diferentes EEUU está en una senda de acercarse a lo que dice que combate, legitimando la tortura y la confinación indefinida.

No voy a negar que EEUU comete errores, ni que EEUU se acerque a lo que combate cada vez más. Pero personalmente me parece una posición ambigüa, no la tuya, la de quienes callan ante las barbaridades de Saddam y piden clemencia para el genocida pero no toleran ni una a EEUU.

En cualquier caso estoy plenamente convencido de que, aunque gestos como este respondan a una opinión extendida, no son comunes. De hecho es buena muestra de la diferencia, entre la administración Bush y el Baaz, el revuelo que organizan, tanto en EEUU como en el resto del mundo. Personalmente entiendo que cualquier atentado contra la libertad es execrable, pero hacer correr a niños por una botella de agua no es, en términos aunque sí en relación, comparable con arrancar las uñas a alguién, o gasearlo.

Definir la actuación de EEUU en iraq como "orwelliana" es un ejercicio gratuito. ¿Cómo definiríamos entonces la dictadura de Saddam? Muchos se quedan sin palabras para definir al Iraq de Saddam pero les sobran para atacar a EEUU; y eso, en mi opinión, se parece mucho a defender a un genocida.
